About the Filmmakers

Jan Knuesel is a journalist, filmmaker and specialist for East Asia. He is also the founder of the company Asienspiegel GmbH and its Newsblog asienspiegel.ch, which focuses on Japan, Korea and China for the German speaking markets. Before founding his own company he was editor at the online edition of Tages-Anzeiger in Zurich, one of Switzerland’s biggest newspapers. Jan Knuesel has a Master’s degree in Japanese from the University of Zurich.

Stephan Knuesel is a Swiss filmmaker and designer. He lives since 1999 in New York where he works for Film&TV. Stephan Knuesel was Director of Photography for music videos and for the Fuji-TV lifestyle show “Oh, my New York!”. Today he regularly directs and shoots videos for the internet radio show “Newtown Sessions”. He also directed and edited promotional videos for the History Channel’s show ‘The Universe’, a commercial for Asahi Shimbun and Unilever Pond’s and a documentary film for the Rubin Museum of Art with Brian Cox. For award winning design studios “Local Projects” and “Picture Projects” he edited multimedia and interactive documentaries such as the multi-screen documentary “Timescapes” with Stanley Tucci and a documentary about Frank Lloyd Wright’s last building featuring Leonard Nimoy. Stephan Knuesel studied filmmaking at Tisch School of the Arts and earned a Masters degree from the ITP program also at Tisch School of the Arts, New York University. www.knuesel.net
